4 Tips for Wheelchair Repair and Maintenance
Wheelchairs are used frequently every day as a means of transportation for special people. Some parts of wheelchairs will be worn out after long-term use. At this time, you need to learn some small skills of maintenance.
Tires. Wheelchair tires are divided into pneumatic tires and solid tires. If the tread of a solid tire is blurred and the depth is less than 1mm or there is oxidation cracking, the tire should be replaced in time; if it is a pneumatic tire, check the tire pressure and inflate it in time if the tire pressure is insufficient, 90% full is enough. In addition, it is recommended to bring a wheelchair inner tube when traveling long distances to avoid tire failures that are difficult to repair, and there may not be wheelchair inner tubes at the place where they are repaired outside.
Screws. There are many structures on the wheelchair that need screws to connect and stabilize, such as armrests, footrests, etc. If you find that the wheelchair has abnormal noises or the screws are loose, you should tighten them in time to avoid accidents.
Brake. If you find that the brake handle shakes left and right, it may be that the bolts connecting the handle and the frame are loose, so you need to tighten them in time. If you find that you cannot fix the tire or stop the tire from rotating, you should adjust the brake to the appropriate position. When the brake is normally released, it should be about 5mm away from the tire.
Fixing strap. The fixing strap of the wheelchair is divided into Velcro and snap-on. If the Velcro fixing strap cannot stick, the debris should be cleaned in time. If the Velcro fixing strap is not sticky enough, it should be replaced with a new Velcro fixing strap in time. If the snap-on fixing strap is found to be severely worn or the snap-on is loose, the snap-on or the entire fixing strap should be replaced in time to avoid accidents caused by the fixing strap loosening and breaking during driving.
